Cover Of The Rolling Stone -Dr.Hook

"Cover Of The Rolling Stone" by Dr.Hook is a catchy song that teases and makes fun of rock and roll start. Mentioning all the things that rock stars care about like money, fame, groupies, limo rides and most obviously being on the cover of popular magazines like the Rolling Stone. This song came out on March 29th, 1973 and many of their songs by Dr.Hook followed a similar theme by poking fun at rock stars. Ironically 3 of the 7 band members of the band made it on the cover of the Rolling Stone and the famous magazine played along with their joke using the lyrics from another song called "Whats-Their-Name-make-The-Cover". Ultimately their song gave the magazine the kick start it needed and the publicity being that the magazine was only 5 years old at the time.

Is Google making Us Stupid?

"Is Google Making Us Stupid" article by Nicholas Carr discusses the idea that people are not taking time to do the research for anything anymore because of Google. At the click of a button we are able t look anything up instantly and we don't need to take the time to do our research anymore. Carr investigates this idea by stating that we don't take time to read things anymore, instead we pull out our phones or computers and google it. This makes me wonder if it is true that our society is starting to become incapable of critical thinking?

"The Wilderness Downtown"

After I used my address in the Wilderness Downtown film and watched the short movie/clip go on overtop of my exact location I got more creeped out then fascinated. Especially after reading the two articles on screens this weirded me out a lot knowing that this clip was overtop of my house. I think its cool at the same time because I have never seen anything like that before but its scary knowing that putting your location into something can sometimes show your personal space.

Reading In A Whole New Way+ Reading On Screens

Both articles "Reading In A Whole New Way" and "Reading On Screens" were interesting to read back to back and both made interesting points about the debate of reading on paper vs. screens. In the article "Reading On Screens" the author makes a very good point about how it really boils down to the individual. Our world has turned into a technology based environment and people are doing everything over screens nowadays so it only makes sense that we would do our reeding on screens too. The Kindle is a great example of this because it demolishes the book completely. "Reading In A Whole New Way" made a very interesting point about how in the future we will depend on screens and we will never be far from one. This is a frightening thought. It also mentions how the toy industry like Webkinz used a toy to lure children to the screen and the same goes for Club Pinguin. We don't even realize whats going on in the world around us and how much the screen is really taking over our lives until we dissect it all. Both of these articles were eye opening and left me with a lot more questions and thoughts about the benefits and disadvantages of our "screens".

"We Used To Wait" Reflection

I am a child of the digital generation. Thinking about my life and generation compared to the past generations is very interesting. My life and the world around me is changing every year due to the digital world that we live in. I still remember the first time I listened to music from headphones off of my best friends walkman. This is a moment I will never forget because I had never heard music so clearly and closely to my ears before. I felt as though I was listening to a live concert and I couldn't believe how amazing it was. For me this was the most memorable experience as a child growing up digital. Another found memory I have would be when I got my first iPod. I remember being so excited and immediately going to Best Buy and buying a case and glittery stickers to bedazzle it with.  When I put life into perspective and think about how I have had the pleasure of going up in a generation where I can connect instantly with friends and family I feel amazed. I am a child of the digital generation and thats something that not everyone can say.
